Communist Party of India bags Simaria Assembly by- Election

Ranchi, February 8, 2008

It was a surprise.  Everybody was awaiting for the results as it could turn out to be a prediction of the future scenario of politics in Jharkhand.  The politics in Jharkhand is so confusing that everybody is looking forward to a trend setter.

Mr. Ramchandra Ram of CPI won the Simaria Assembly by- Election.  The event was caused by death of Bhartiya Janta Party (BJP) legislator Mr. Upendra Das.  It is for the first time that CPI won an assembly seat in the newly created State of Jharkhand.  Another party which gained most in politics is Mr. Babulal Marandi's Jharkhand Vikas Morcha (JVM-P) which came second in the voting result.  Mr. Babulal Marandi was a former BJP man and the first Chief Minister of Jharkhand.  Now he is a formidable  challenge to BJP.

The Congress Party came third in the race.  Compared to the earlier elections of the Constituency it improved its vote bank manyfold.

The BJP was relegated to the fourth position.  Earlier it was the BJP which won the seats successively.
